PCMC Moves to Penalise Non-Compliant RMC Plants After MPCB Flags Major Pollution Violations
After the Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB) cited 20 RMC plants for environmental breaches, PCMC has promised strict enforcement, including shutdowns and utility disconnections.
Pune | November15 ,2025: Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) is gearing up to take stringent action against several Ready-Mix Concrete (RMC) plants in its jurisdiction, following a crackdown by the Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB) for environmental norm violations.
According to MPCB, a survey conducted on March 11 uncovered severe violations at RMC plants — including uncontrolled dust emissions, lack of pollution control systems, improper raw material storage, and untreated discharge of effluents. As a result, the board has ordered 18 plants to halt operations, while four others face interim actions like bank guarantee forfeiture.
PCMC’s involvement escalated after enforcement notices and show-cause orders were issued to at least 11 plants within its limits. In one notable case, plants in Wakad and Tathawade were directly warned for failing to install necessary environmental safeguards.
Local residents, especially in areas like Hinjawadi, have repeatedly raised complaints about dust pollution from these facilities, which has prompted sustained public pressure for action. ectives. Authorities say they will monitor compliance, shut down plants that do not meet regulations, and work with MPCB to disconnect water and power supply where needed.
This move is being welcomed by environmentalists who argue that RMC plants, if left unchecked, can severely degrade air quality and public health in rapidly urbanising areas like Pimpri-Chinchwad. Civic officials emphasize that the crackdown is aimed at regulation and not hindrance — urging plant operators to upgrade their systems to meet pollution-control norms.
