Vishwakarma University’s ADR and Healthcare Summit 2025 brought legal and medical experts together to discuss how mediation and arbitration can address complex healthcare disputes and strengthen India’s evolving healthcare-justice ecosystem.

Pune|  November 19,2025: Vishwakarma University hosted the Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) and Healthcare Summit 2025, a timely initiative as India’s healthcare sector faces increasingly complex legal disputes and a rising need for sensitive, expert-led conflict resolution. Organised by Samyak – Centre for Mediation and Arbitration, the summit highlighted the growing relevance of mediation and arbitration in resolving issues such as medical negligence, patient grievances, regulatory conflicts, and institutional disputes.

Samyak, established in March 2025, has been working to bridge academic training with real-world dispute resolution. It focuses on skill development, capacity building, and interdisciplinary understanding of ADR mechanisms. The summit opened with Principal District and Sessions Judge of Pune, M. K. Mahajan, along with Pune Bar Association President Hemant Zanjad and senior advocate Pratap Pardeshi.

In his keynote address, Judge Mahajan underlined the constitutional relevance of ADR, stating that promoting awareness of mediation and arbitration is both a legal and constitutional duty. He noted that young lawyers have strong career prospects in ADR as the justice system increasingly embraces alternative pathways to resolution.

A panel discussion featuring Dr. Surekha Kashyap, Aniruddha Rajurkar, Dr. Prasad Thakurdesai, Dr. Ujwala Shinde, and advocate Aman Dutta, moderated by advocate Tejas Hule, examined how ADR can support healthcare professionals and institutions by resolving conflicts efficiently while maintaining trust and patient welfare.

Vice Chancellor of Vishwakarma University, Prof. Mukund Kulkarni, said that initiatives like Samyak align closely with the university’s vision of maximising human potential and strengthening legal education. Dean of the Faculty of Law, Dr. Apurva Bhilare, added that ADR is becoming indispensable, and law schools must adapt their pedagogy accordingly.

Samyak Directors, Dr. Deepshikha Sharma and Dr. Shruti Das, said the centre aims to evolve into a full-fledged ecosystem for mediation and arbitration, offering experiential learning and expanding access to justice, particularly in specialised fields like healthcare.
