Pune: Over 30 Trains Including Deccan Express & Indrayani to Be Disrupted by Blocks from November 26
Central Railway to impose major traffic & power blocks from Nov 26 to Dec 6, affecting 30+ trains including Deccan Express and Indrayani.
Pune | November 22, 2025: Central Railway has announced a significant set of traffic and power blocks on the busy Kalyan–Lonavala stretch that will directly affect over 30 Mail, Express, and suburban trains linked to Pune. The blocks, scheduled between November 26 and December 6, are part of major pre non-interlocking and non-interlocking works at the Lonavala–BVT yard. These upgrades include yard remodelling and line extension aimed at improving long-term railway capacity and safety. According to the Mumbai Division, the down line will be blocked on November 26 and 27 between 11:25 AM and 6:25 PM, while both up and down lines will be blocked on November 28 and 29 from 11:25 AM to 6:00 PM. Although the block continues until December 6, the railways have clarified that there will be no further operational impact after November 29.
The disruption will affect several major trains including the Deccan Express, Indrayani Express, Udyan Express, Daund–Indore Express, Nagercoil–CSMT Express, Chennai Express, Konark Express, and the Jodhpur–Hadapsar Express. Many of these services will be regulated, delayed, or held at intermediate stations such as Lonavala, Karjat, and Bhivpuri Road. Suburban services on the Pune–Lonavala route will also face restrictions. On November 26 and 27, select local trains from Pune and Shivajinagar will be short-terminated at Talegaon, and their return services will originate from Talegaon as well. During the two-day full block on November 28 and 29, more suburban services are expected to be curtailed, including evening and late-afternoon trains that typically see heavy commuter load.
Officials from Central Railway have emphasized that these blocks are essential for ongoing modernization and cannot be postponed. They noted that the upgrades will help improve train handling capacity, reduce congestion, and enhance safety across one of Maharashtra’s most crowded railway corridors. Railway experts add that such maintenance exercises, though inconvenient, are routine necessities for systems handling high passenger volumes. Pune’s rail links have been under pressure due to rising traffic between Mumbai, Pune, and southern India, making upgrades and remodelling unavoidable.
Passengers have been advised to check the status of their trains before beginning their journey and to account for potential delays. The Railways recommend using official apps and enquiry platforms to stay updated in real time. For those travelling to Mumbai or returning to Pune during the block period, keeping alternative options like bus services or flexible travel windows may help reduce inconvenience. Commuters who rely on the Lonavala–Talegaon–Pune suburban network should allow extra time for their travel and review adjusted timetables issued by Central Railway.
These blocks may cause short-term discomfort for regular commuters, long-distance travellers, and office-goers, but they reflect a broader push to strengthen Pune’s rail infrastructure for the future. Once completed, the yard remodelling and line-extension works are expected to streamline operations and minimize delays on one of the state’s most crucial railway routes.
