One Worker Dead, Five Injured as LPG-Linked Blast Causes Fire at Bhosari MIDC Powder-Coating Unit
An LPG-triggered explosion at a powder-coating unit in Bhosari MIDC killed one worker and injured five. Firefighters doused the blaze; safety lapses under probe as authorities begin investigation.
Pune| December 01, 2025: A fatal industrial incident struck the Bhosari MIDC area of Pune on Saturday afternoon when an LPG-linked blast triggered a fire inside a powder-coating unit. One worker died and five others suffered injuries, according to local authorities.
The explosion occurred around 3:45 PM, apparently due to a gas leak that allowed a vapor cloud to form inside the unit, which then ignited. Firefighters from the local municipal fire brigade responded quickly, preventing the fire from spreading to surrounding industrial establishments.
The deceased, identified as a labourer named Sunil Kumar from Uttar Pradesh, suffered fatal head injuries after being trapped under heavy material during the explosion. The five others — who sustained varying degrees of burn and blast injuries — were rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Preliminary inspection reportedly revealed that the unit operated from a rented facility lacking adequate fire-safety measures. There is growing concern over compliance with safety norms in many MIDC-based units. Industrial-safety experts have pointed out that Bhosari still lacks a dedicated fire station — a fact that has long raised safety concerns for local factories and warehouses.
Local authorities say a full forensic and regulatory investigation has been launched. They plan to examine safety audits, cylinder storage norms, emergency response protocols and compliance history of the factory. Meanwhile, they urge other MIDC-area establishments to immediately review safety measures and ensure proper compliance to prevent similar tragedies.
