Pune | December 4, 2025: A dramatic traffic incident in Pune ended with the detention of a 48-year-old man from Lullanagar after he drove his SUV at high speed — despite a missing front tyre. The police attempted to stop him during a naka-bandi near Wadia College Chowk around 11:30 p.m. on November 30, but the driver fled. The SUV, visibly unsafe with a detached left-front wheel, continued on roads until it finally came to a halt near Council Hall in the early hours of Monday, where police took him into custody.

Footage from bystanders on two-wheelers captured the SUV’s reckless motion with the horizontal wheel spinning dangerously — the video quickly went viral on social media. According to an FIR filed by a crime-branch beat marshal, the driver later claimed the tyre had deflated en route to Camp, but he chose to ignore the problem and kept driving.

Authorities say this marks the third drunk-driving incident in the area in recent days. The driver, though briefly detained and issued a notice, was released; however, the case remains registered at Bund Garden police station under traffic-safety and negligent-driving provisions. The incident has sparked renewed concern over road safety, particularly around enforcement of vehicle fitness and drunken driving laws.

Officials are urging commuters to report unsafe vehicles and for traffic police to step up checks on vehicle conditions and sobriety, especially during late-night hours.
