Pune’s ‘Peshwa Shristi’ project on Parvati Hill remains incomplete even after eight years and crores spent, prompting citizens to demand an inquiry, speedy tender process, and immediate restart of stalled heritage work.
Pune | December 04,2025:The ambitious heritage project ‘Peshwa Shristi’ on Parvati Hill, launched by the Pune Municipal Corporation’s Heritage Department, has remained stalled for eight years, despite significant expenditure and expert guidance. Conceived as a landmark initiative to showcase replicas of key Peshwa-era structures, murals narrating the Peshwas’ history, and a visually rich heritage experience, the project has seen barely any progress on the ground.
More than one crore rupees have already been spent through two separate tenders, yet the condition of the site reflects neglect rather than development. Dense overgrowth of trees and bushes has slowed down work even further, raising concerns about the administration’s commitment to preserving and promoting the city’s cultural legacy.

Citizens and heritage enthusiasts argue that the prolonged delay exposes serious mismanagement within the municipal administration. They question how long the project will continue in this dormant state, and how much more public money will be needed before completion becomes a reality. Calls for an immediate inquiry and accountability have been growing.
A group of concerned citizens recently met Superintendent Engineer of the Municipal Building Department, Rohidas Gavane, and submitted a written statement highlighting the urgency of completing the tender process without further delay. They also insisted that work should resume at the earliest and that ‘Peshwa Shristi’ must be opened to the public soon.
Dilip Arundekar of the Nationalist Congress Party has demanded strict action against officials responsible for the delay if visible progress is not seen within a month. With public pressure mounting, the municipal administration now faces questions about efficiency, transparency, and the future of one of Pune’s most promising heritage projects.
