Bomb Threat Email Targets Collector Office in Kolhapur, Staff Evacuated

A bomb threat email claiming that RDX explosives were planted triggered an evacuation and a security sweep at the Kolhapur district collector’s office, though initial checks found no suspicious devices.

Kolhapur | December 13, 2025:Officials in Kolhapur responded to a bomb threat email sent to the official account of the district collector’s office, prompting an immediate evacuation of all staff and heightened security measures. The message claimed that approximately five kilograms of RDX had been placed inside the collectorate and warned of an explosion later in the afternoon, causing alarm among employees and visitors.

Following the alert, authorities including the police, bomb disposal squad, fire brigade and disaster management teams were mobilised to conduct a detailed inspection of the premises. Security personnel, along with sniffer dogs and specialised detection equipment, carried out a thorough search of the building and surrounding areas. No hazardous materials or explosive devices were discovered during the sweep, and regular activities at the office have since resumed.

Kolhapur district collector Amol Yedge confirmed that standard operating procedures were followed once the threat email was received, ensuring the safety of staff and visitors. He described the response as precautionary and urged citizens to remain calm while the investigation continues to trace the source of the email. Police have begun inquiries into the origin of the message, and digital forensics teams are involved in efforts to identify those responsible.

Local authorities stressed that no credible evidence of explosives was found and reassured the public that the collectorate is safe. They also appealed to people not to spread unverified information that could fuel unnecessary fear. Security has been maintained around the district headquarters as a precaution while the probe into the email threat is ongoing.
