Five new police stations will be set up in Pune city, increasing the total to 45, including a cyber police station, along with approval for 830 new police posts.

Pune, December 15, 2025 – Pune city’s policing infrastructure is set to receive a major boost with the approval of five new police stations, taking the total number of police stations in the city to 45, including a dedicated cyber police station. Alongside this expansion, the state government has also approved 830 new police posts, aimed at strengthening law enforcement and improving public safety across rapidly growing urban areas.

The decision comes in response to Pune’s expanding population, rising urban spread and increasing demand for faster and more efficient policing. Several parts of the city have witnessed rapid residential and commercial development in recent years, putting pressure on existing police stations that cater to large jurisdictions.

Officials said the new police stations will help reduce response time, improve crime detection and ensure better accessibility for citizens. Smaller jurisdictional areas will allow officers to monitor neighbourhoods more effectively and build stronger community connections.

The addition of new posts will address long-standing manpower shortages within the Pune Police force. With 830 new positions sanctioned, recruitment will take place across various ranks, including constables, officers and technical staff. Authorities believe this will significantly improve patrolling, investigation capacity and emergency response.

Special emphasis is also being placed on cybercrime policing. With digital fraud, online scams and cyber offences on the rise, strengthening cyber police capabilities has become a priority. The expansion aims to enhance technical expertise, faster complaint resolution and improved coordination with financial and digital platforms.

Senior police officials said that the new police stations will be strategically located in areas experiencing high population density and increased crime reporting. Planning is underway to ensure proper infrastructure, staffing and equipment before the stations become operational.

Residents and citizen groups have welcomed the move, stating that quicker access to police services is crucial for public confidence. Many areas currently fall under police stations that are several kilometres away, leading to delays in complaint registration and emergency response. The new stations are expected to address these issues.

Law and order experts say expanding police infrastructure is essential for cities like Pune, which continues to grow as an education, IT and industrial hub. Increased policing presence not only helps in crime prevention but also acts as a deterrent against antisocial activities.

Authorities have assured that recruitment and training processes will be carried out in a phased manner to ensure quality and efficiency. Modern policing practices, use of technology and community engagement are expected to be key focus areas for the newly inducted personnel.

The Pune Police Commissionerate is also expected to review internal deployment strategies to ensure optimal utilisation of resources once the new stations become functional. Coordination between existing and new stations will be strengthened to maintain seamless law enforcement.

With the approval of new police stations and additional manpower, Pune’s law enforcement framework is poised for a significant upgrade. The move is expected to improve overall policing standards, enhance citizen safety and support the city’s continued growth while maintaining law and order.
