Indian Army And Mahatma Gandhi University Sign MoU To Boost Medical Education And Support Army Families

The Indian Army and Mahatma Gandhi University of Medical Sciences & Technology signed an MoU in Jaipur to offer scholarships to Army families, foster academic exchange and expand research collaboration

Jaipur | February 06,2026:The Indian Army and Mahatma Gandhi University of Medical Sciences & Technology signed a Memorandum of Understanding aimed at strengthening academic, technical and healthcare cooperation, officials said. The agreement, formalised during a ceremony in Jaipur, establishes structured collaboration between the military and the university’s medical faculty to benefit students linked to the Army as well as broader medical research initiatives.

Under the pact, children of serving and retired Army personnel who gain admission through NEET into the university’s medical and dental programmes will receive an annual scholarship of ₹1 lakh. Students enrolled in allied health and paramedical courses will be awarded scholarships equivalent to one-third of their tuition fees, offering financial support and encouraging pursuit of medical careers.

Founder Dr. ML Swarnakar described the initiative as inspired by the Indian Army’s ethos of service, courage and sacrifice, noting that cooperation with Army medical colleges will open avenues in research, technology development and training. Lieutenant General Manjinder Singh, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Sapta Shakti Command, said the partnership reflects strong civilian support for the armed forces and emphasised its positive impact on morale.

As part of the engagement, academic exchanges and joint research opportunities are expected to enhance training exposure and access to advanced technologies. The event also saw the inauguration of a new helipad at the Mahatma Gandhi Hospital campus, aimed at strengthening emergency medical response capabilities in the region.
