Solapur police used gait analysis from poor CCTV footage to identify a juvenile burglary suspect. Stolen jewellery worth ₹14.4 lakh was recovered; suspect’s uncle arrested for handling and selling some items

Solapur| February 13, 2026: Solapur’s crime unit has cracked a major house burglary case by identifying a suspect through his distinctive gait after CCTV footage showed a masked figure fleeing a locked residence in Antroli Nagar Part‑3. The footage was too blurred to capture a clear face, but police noted the suspect’s walk and matched it with local juveniles.

A juvenile in conflict with law allegedly broke into the home of Ravi Prakash Daulatabad and stole jewellery valued at approximately ₹14.40 lakh during a series of thefts between November 25, 2025 and February 4, 2026. When police from Vijapur Naka Police Station’s Crime Detection Unit reviewed 69 CCTV cameras in the area, they spotted the suspect, but the face was indistinct, making direct identification impossible.

Investigators then compared the walking pattern in the footage with people in nearby localities and found a match with the juvenile’s gait near Parshi Vihir and Ambika Nagar. The boy was taken into custody during questioning and confessed to the burglary, revealing that he had handed the stolen jewellery to his uncle, Ankit alias Ankush Lakshman Valmiki (34) of Pune’s Khadki area.

Police recovered the stolen items, but noted four gold bangles were missing. Valmiki was also arrested and sent to judicial custody until February 16. Officers have taken the suspect’s family home in Pune for further search and continue to investigate how the uncle disposed of the missing pieces.

The case highlights the increasing use of forensic gait analysis and local intelligence to solve crimes when CCTV quality is poor.
