Solapur Police Use Gait Analysis to Crack Blurry CCTV Burglary, Uncle Arrested for Handling ₹14.4 Lakh Stolen Jewellery

Solapur, Maharashtra |February 13, 2026: Solapur police have solved a complex burglary case despite unclear CCTV footage by identifying the thief through his distinctive walking pattern, leading to the recovery of stolen jewellery valued at approximately ₹14.40 lakh and the arrest of his relative, officials said.

The incident dates back to a series of house burglaries in the Antroli Nagar Part‑3 area, where jewellery was reported missing from a residence. When the Crime Detection Unit of the Vijapur Naka Police Station reviewed footage from dozens of cameras, the suspect’s face could not be made out. With the help of forensic gait analysis, officers compared the suspect’s walk against local individuals and identified a juvenile whose movement closely matched the footage.

Following his arrest, the youth reportedly confessed to the theft and revealed that he had handed the stolen items to his uncle, Ankit alias Ankush Lakshman Valmiki (34), of Pune’s Khadki area. Police said the uncle had sold some of the jewellery, allegedly using part of the proceeds to buy a mobile phone.

Authorities recovered most of the stolen jewellery, though some pieces remain unaccounted for, and Valmiki was taken into custody and remanded in judicial custody until February 16. Police have also searched the suspect’s family residence in Pune as part of the continuing investigation.

The case highlights growing use of non‑traditional forensic techniques like gait analysis when CCTV quality is insufficient for direct identification. Police said they would continue to explore all leads to recover any missing items.
