Mohol tehsil recorded an alarming 749 fatalities in road accidents over one year amid widespread complaints about damaged rural roads and agricultural route failures, prompting official plans for safety improvements
Mohol | February 22, 2026:Mohol tehsil in Solapur district has witnessed a disturbing level of road accident fatalities, with 749 people losing their lives in traffic crashes over the past year, authorities said.
Local officials and residents have raised growing concerns about the condition of rural roads and agricultural tracks, as well as recurring failures in infrastructure such as earthen embankments and farm access routes. The high death toll highlights systemic issues in road maintenance and safety awareness in the region.
Mohol Police Station’s newly appointed inspector, Bajirao Powar, acknowledged the severity of the situation and said that senior officials and civic bodies are actively considering measures to improve road safety. Police have also noted a significant volume of complaints related to broken or poorly built farm roads and embankments that exacerbate traffic hazards on rural stretches.

Efforts are expected to focus on repairing damaged roads, enforcing traffic regulations more strictly, and coordinating with district authorities to secure funding for long‑term infrastructure upgrades. Increased traffic patrols and targeted enforcement campaigns could be implemented to reduce reckless driving and prevent future fatalities.
Local residents have expressed hope that this wake‑up call will lead to tangible improvements, particularly in ensuring safer travel for farmers, students, and daily commuters who rely on these rural routes.
