Weather Alert in Maharashtra for February 26: Heatwave Conditions Return as Temperatures Rise, IMD Issues Advisory
Maharashtra
Maharashtra braces for rising temperatures on February 26 as heatwave conditions return; authorities urge precautions against heat stress and dehydration.
Pune | 26 February 2026:Maharashtra is set to experience a significant rise in temperatures on February 26, 2026, with heatwave-like conditions expected in several parts of the state. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an advisory warning residents about the potential health risks of prolonged exposure to high temperatures.
Daytime temperatures are forecasted to range between 32°C and 34°C, with some areas, particularly in Vidarbha and neighbouring districts, expected to record 33°C–36°C due to dry winds and clear skies. This surge follows a period of relatively mild winter conditions and marks the onset of a sustained hot spell.

The IMD has urged citizens to avoid unnecessary outdoor activities between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m., stay hydrated, wear light and breathable clothing, and seek shade whenever possible. Vulnerable groups, including children, older adults, and individuals with pre-existing health conditions, are especially advised to take precautions to prevent heat-related illnesses such as dehydration, heat cramps, exhaustion, and heatstroke.
Urban centres like Pune and Mumbai are likely to feel the heat more intensely due to the urban heat island effect, where built-up areas retain more heat. Authorities have warned that residents may experience higher levels of discomfort, particularly in congested neighbourhoods with limited green cover.

Agricultural areas and smaller towns in Vidarbha, Marathwada, and Central Maharashtra may also be affected by the heat. Farmers and livestock owners are advised to provide adequate shade and water for animals and to limit outdoor activities during peak temperatures.
The advisory emphasizes that the rising heat is not confined to Maharashtra alone, as northern and central plains of India are also witnessing above-average temperatures. Communities are encouraged to stay informed through regular weather updates and follow safety guidelines to minimize health risks.
