Pune Police deploys 800 traffic staff for Dhulivandan with special checkpoints and strict action against drunk driving to ensure road safety during festival traffic.

Pune |02 March 2026: As Dhulivandan celebrations approach, Pune Police has announced a comprehensive traffic management plan to handle the expected surge in vehicles and ensure road safety. Around 800 traffic personnel have been deployed at key locations across the city, focusing on enforcing drunk driving laws, managing congestion, and preventing accidents during the festival period.

Dhulivandan, which follows Holi, sees heavy movement of people across neighborhoods for celebrations. To tackle this, traffic teams will be stationed at major junctions, high-density routes, and traffic signals, helping maintain smooth flow and providing rapid response to any incidents. Peak hour congestion will be closely monitored, with personnel deployed at bottlenecks to prevent delays and ensure commuter safety.

A central part of the plan is a strict anti–drunk driving drive. Mobile breath analyzers and checkpoints will screen motorists, especially during evenings and nights when risky driving is more prevalent. Drivers violating drunk driving laws will face immediate fines and legal action under the Motor Vehicles Act, as authorities aim to reduce accidents and protect residents.

Senior traffic officials highlighted that the increased deployment will allow better monitoring of roads, enforcement of traffic regulations, and efficient emergency response. Public safety campaigns are also being run alongside enforcement, reminding commuters to plan trips, avoid alcohol before driving, wear helmets and seat belts, and respect traffic signals. Authorities advise extra travel time during peak hours to prevent frustration and reckless driving.

This enhanced deployment aligns with Pune Police’s ongoing festival traffic safety initiatives. Similar drives during New Year and other celebrations have focused on checkpoints and patrolling to curb dangerous driving behaviors and minimize road mishaps. Experts in road safety commend such proactive measures, noting that visible police presence combined with strict enforcement effectively deters violations.

Residents are also reminded that personal responsibility is crucial. Adhering to speed limits, avoiding distractions, and respecting other road users are especially important during peak celebration days when traffic volumes rise significantly.
