The Maharashtra cabinet has approved development of a large IT Park at Shenda Park in Kolhapur on over 34 hectares of land, aiming to attract technology investment and create employment opportunities for local youth.
Kolhapur | 27 February, 2026: In a significant push to expand the information technology sector beyond major metropolitan cities, the Maharashtra government has approved the establishment of a new IT Park at Shenda Park in Kolhapur. The state cabinet cleared the proposal to allocate about 34.36 hectares of land for the project, which will be developed through the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC).
The decision was taken during a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, marking a major step toward strengthening Kolhapur’s position as an emerging technology destination. The project is expected to bring new investment into the region and generate employment opportunities for thousands of skilled professionals.

According to officials, the land identified for the IT Park is located in the Shenda Park area and includes government-owned plots that will be transferred to MIDC for development. The initiative is part of the state government’s broader strategy to promote industrial and technological growth in cities beyond Mumbai and Pune.
Local representatives and ministers had been pursuing the project for several years, arguing that Kolhapur has a strong talent base but lacks adequate IT infrastructure. With universities, educational institutions, and improved connectivity in the region, the proposed IT Park is expected to attract leading technology companies and startups.

Officials believe the project will not only strengthen the local economy but also reduce migration of skilled youth to larger IT hubs such as Pune, Bengaluru, and Hyderabad. By creating a modern technology ecosystem in Kolhapur, the state hopes to stimulate allied sectors including services, real estate, and support industries.Once developed, the IT Park is expected to provide advanced infrastructure and business facilities to technology firms, positioning Kolhapur as a growing center for digital innovation in western Maharashtra.
