MPSC Exam Postponed to April Amid Statewide Protests by Candidates
Thousands of aspirants preparing for the Maharashtra Public Service Commission (MPSC) examinations will have to wait longer after the commission postponed the upcoming exam schedule to April following protests by candidates across the state.

Pune | 07 March, 2026: The Maharashtra Public Service Commission (MPSC) has postponed the State Services Mains Examination following strong protests from candidates who argued that the earlier schedule did not allow sufficient preparation time. The decision came after weeks of growing discontent among aspirants across Maharashtra. Candidates had raised concerns after the preliminary examination results were declared in late February, leaving them with barely a month to prepare for the mains examination that was originally scheduled for March. Aspirants claimed the short interval created serious academic pressure and demanded a revised timetable.

Responding to the concerns, the commission announced that the mains examination will now be conducted in April. According to the revised schedule, the exams will begin on April 9 and continue on multiple dates including April 13, April 18 and April 19, covering language, essay and general studies papers along with optional subjects. The commission stated that the revised timeline gives candidates nearly 45 days between the preliminary results and the mains examination. Many aspirants had earlier taken to social media and organized demonstrations, urging authorities to reconsider the schedule and ensure fair preparation time.

The MPSC said the decision was taken after reviewing representations submitted by candidates and academic stakeholders. Officials emphasized that the change aims to ensure fairness while maintaining the integrity of the examination process. The State Services Examination is one of Maharashtra’s most competitive recruitment processes, attracting thousands of aspirants seeking positions in the state administration each year.
