Pune Police raided a Budhwar Peth building, rescuing four Bangladeshi women allegedly forced into prostitution after being lured with job offers. One accused has been arrested while investigations into a larger trafficking network continue

Pune | 07 March, 2026: Pune Police have busted an alleged prostitution racket operating in the Budhwar Peth area under the jurisdiction of Faraskhana Police Station, rescuing four Bangladeshi women who were reportedly trafficked to India on the pretext of employment.

According to police officials, the operation was conducted on March 5 between 6:30 pm and 10:30 pm at the first floor of Janta Building in Budhwar Peth. The raid was carried out under the guidance of Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 1) Krushikesh Rawale and led by Senior Police Inspector Prashant Bhasme of Faraskhana Police Station.

During the raid, officers found four women and one man, all believed to be from Bangladesh. Preliminary investigation revealed that the women had allegedly been brought to India with promises of jobs at beauty parlours or tailoring units. However, after their arrival, they were reportedly forced into prostitution through threats and coercion.

Police have arrested Bhopsingh Rajput in connection with the case. Authorities have also registered offences against other suspects identified as Babu Bhaiya alias Papa Sheikh, a Bangladeshi agent known as Mulla, and Meenakshi Ramesh Metri, who is believed to be linked to the premises where the activities were taking place.A case has been registered at Faraskhana Police Station as Crime No. 71/2026 under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act, 1956.

Investigators suspect that the case could be part of a larger human trafficking network that targets vulnerable women by offering false job opportunities. Police officials said further investigation is underway to trace other individuals involved and to determine the full extent of the racket.
