San Francisco | March 10 2026: The popular messaging platform WhatsApp is testing a redesigned chat interface that features rounded message bubbles, signaling a noticeable visual shift in the app’s conversation layout. The change is currently being tested with select beta users on Android devices as part of the latest development update.

The redesign replaces the earlier speech-bubble style messages, which featured sharper edges and rectangular shapes, with smoother and more rounded message bubbles. The new look aims to give conversations a softer appearance while improving the overall visual flow of chats. Early testers report that the updated bubbles appear slightly taller and more polished, helping the interface feel more modern and streamlined. Another change affects how multimedia messages are displayed. Images and videos are no longer placed inside traditional rectangular frames. Instead, they appear in rounded containers that blend with the new chat bubble design, creating a cleaner and less cluttered messaging experience.

Technology analysts say the update reflects broader efforts by Meta Platforms, the parent company of WhatsApp, to refresh the design of its messaging services and maintain competitiveness in the rapidly evolving communication app market.

Alongside the visual overhaul, reports suggest that WhatsApp is also experimenting with a potential premium subscription option. The proposed plan could include additional personalization tools such as custom themes, unique application icons, personalized notification tones, and the ability to pin more chats to the top of the conversation list. The feature is still in the testing stage and has not yet been announced for a global rollout. However, if widely released, the changes could represent one of the most significant visual updates to WhatsApp’s messaging interface in recent years
