Trump Claims Iran War May End Soon as Attacks Continue Across Middle East
The ongoing conflict involving Iran, the United States and Israel has intensified across the Middle East even as US President Donald Trump claimed the war could end soon due to heavy damage inflicted on Iran’s military capabilities.
March 12, 2026 | Washington/Tehran/Beirut:In a telephone interview with the news platform Axios on Wednesday, Trump said American forces had significantly weakened Tehran’s military infrastructure, leaving very few strategic targets remaining. According to him, the campaign has progressed faster than initially expected and has caused more damage than planned. However, the conflict continues to escalate on multiple fronts.
Iran has warned that it could completely shut down the strategically crucial Strait of Hormuz if US attacks persist. The narrow waterway handles nearly 20 percent of the world’s oil shipments, and any disruption could trigger significant turbulence in global energy markets. Meanwhile, heavy airstrikes were reported in Tehran as US and Israeli forces launched one of the most intense bombardments since the war began nearly ten days ago. Explosions were heard across several parts of the Iranian capital, a city of nearly ten million people, forcing residents to take shelter inside their homes as fighter jets flew at low altitude overnight.
US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth described the attacks as among the most intense operations carried out in Iran so far. Residents reported continuous blasts and shaking buildings as bombs struck multiple locations in the western parts of the city.
At the same time, regional tensions have spread to Lebanon, where the ongoing conflict has resulted in heavy casualties. According to Lebanon’s Health Ministry, at least 570 people have been killed and more than 1,400 injured amid repeated airstrikes and explosions across the country. Despite Trump’s claims that the conflict may soon conclude, uncertainty remains over how the war will end. While the US president has at times demanded Iran’s unconditional surrender, military operations in the region continue to intensify, raising concerns about a prolonged conflict and its wider geopolitical consequences.
