Seven years after a fatal road accident, a tribunal in Pune awards ₹12.79 lakh compensation to the victim’s family, bringing partial relief after a long legal battle.
Pune | 12 March, 2026: After nearly seven years of legal proceedings, the Motor Accident Claims Tribunal in Pune has awarded ₹12.79 lakh in compensation to the family of a man who lost his life in a road accident. The decision brings long-awaited relief to the victim’s relatives, who had been pursuing compensation since the fatal crash that occurred several years ago.
According to details presented during the case, the victim died after being struck by a vehicle in a road accident that was allegedly caused by negligent driving. Following the tragedy, the victim’s family filed a compensation claim under the Motor Vehicles Act, stating that the deceased was the primary earning member of the household and that the family had suffered both emotional and financial hardship after his death.

During the hearings, the tribunal examined police records, witness statements, and other supporting evidence to determine responsibility for the accident and assess the financial impact on the victim’s family. The court also reviewed documents related to the deceased person’s occupation and income in order to calculate a fair compensation amount for the dependents.
In motor accident compensation cases, tribunals typically determine the amount based on several factors, including the age of the deceased, estimated income, number of dependents, and potential future earnings. Additional considerations such as funeral expenses, medical costs, and loss of companionship for family members are also taken into account while calculating the final compensation.
After reviewing the available evidence and legal submissions, the tribunal ordered that ₹12.79 lakh be paid to the victim’s family as compensation for their loss. The ruling also directed the concerned vehicle owner and insurance company to ensure that the payment is made within the timeframe specified by the court.
Legal experts note that cases before Motor Accident Claims Tribunals can take several years to reach a conclusion due to the need for detailed documentation, witness examinations, and multiple stages of hearings. Despite the time involved, such tribunals play a crucial role in providing financial assistance to families who suddenly lose their primary breadwinners in road accidents.
Road accidents continue to be a major concern in urban regions like Pune, where increasing traffic density and rapid urban growth have contributed to a rise in accident cases over the years. Authorities and road safety advocates have repeatedly emphasised the need for stricter enforcement of traffic rules, better driver awareness, and improved road infrastructure to reduce the number of fatal crashes.
For the victim’s family, the tribunal’s order marks the end of a long legal struggle. While the compensation cannot undo the loss of a loved one, it offers some financial stability and recognition of the hardship the family has endured since the tragic accident.
