Maharashtra to Launch Private Document Registration Offices to Ease Crowding at Government Centres
The Maharashtra government has approved 60 private document registration offices to improve public services. Five centres will begin operations within six months, offering faster facilities but with additional service charges.

March 13 | Pune:The Maharashtra government has approved the establishment of 60 private document registration offices across the state to streamline property registration services and reduce crowding at existing government offices. According to officials from the Department of Registration and Stamps Maharashtra, the initiative aims to provide citizens with improved infrastructure and faster services similar to those available at modern passport service centres.
In the first phase, five private registration offices will be launched within the next six months. Two of these centres will be set up in Mumbai, while one each will be established in Pune, Thane and Nagpur. Officials said the project has been awarded to VFS Global after a tender process conducted by the state government. The company has been issued a work order to set up and operate the centres.Under the plan, an additional service fee of about ₹5,217 will be charged for document registration carried out at these private centres. While the service charge will be retained by the operating company, the standard stamp duty and registration fees will continue to be deposited into the state government treasury

Authorities said the move was prompted by frequent complaints about overcrowding, inadequate facilities and long waiting hours at sub-registrar offices. The new centres will provide improved amenities such as air-conditioned waiting areas, seating arrangements, washrooms and refreshments for citizens while their documents are being processed.
In the second phase, another 25 centres will be opened within three months after the first batch becomes operational, mainly in major districts including Mumbai, Pune and Thane. The remaining 30 offices will be established across other districts in the final phase of the rollout
