MahaMetro plans feeder bus services under PPP model from Ramwadi Metro Station to nearby areas and airport, aiming to improve last-mile connectivity and increase passenger footfall

Pune | 18 March, 2026: In a move to strengthen last-mile connectivity, Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation has decided to introduce feeder bus services from Ramwadi Metro Station under the public-private partnership (PPP) model. The initiative is aimed at improving access to nearby residential and commercial areas while boosting metro ridership.

Currently, Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited operates buses at regular intervals from the station to Pune International Airport. However, commuters from areas such as Lohgaon and parts of Kharadi often face difficulties reaching the metro station due to limited last-mile options.

To address this gap, MahaMetro plans to roll out experimental feeder services on select routes, including connectivity to the airport and nearby localities. Officials said the service is expected to begin in April, with proposals already invited from private transport operators through an expression of interest process.

Passenger data highlights the growing demand for improved connectivity, with over 62 lakh rides recorded in January, 55 lakh in February, and more than 27 lakh passengers until mid-March at the Ramwadi station alone.

In addition to feeder buses, MahaMetro is also exploring the introduction of prepaid auto-rickshaw services in coordination with local unions. Discussions are underway with transport experts and civic authorities to integrate these services with existing public transport systems.Officials believe the PPP-based model will not only improve accessibility but also create opportunities for private players to contribute to Pune’s evolving urban mobility network.
