Pune | 19 March, 2026: Highlighting the state’s strong wrestling heritage, Deputy Chief Minister Sunetra Pawar urged athletes to maintain integrity, discipline, and dedication while representing Maharashtra at the 68th Maharashtra Kesari Wrestling Championship.

Addressing the gathering at the opening ceremony, Pawar noted that wrestling has played a crucial role in bringing early recognition to India in international sports. She encouraged young wrestlers to aim beyond state-level competitions and work towards achieving success at national and global platforms, including the Olympics.
The championship, organised under the guidance of the Maharashtra State Wrestling Association and supported by key organisers, witnessed the presence of several dignitaries, sports officials, and former champions. Wrestler Sakshi Ingale was felicitated during the event for her achievements.

Organisers introduced new initiatives this year to make the event more inclusive, including dedicated seating arrangements to encourage greater participation of women spectators. The move is expected to help expand the sport’s reach and inspire more young athletes.
Speakers collectively emphasised that Maharashtra Kesari serves as a platform for wrestlers to progress to national competitions and eventually represent the country at international events, strengthening India’s presence in global wrestling.
