Pune
Pune and PCMC announce major traffic diversions for Eid 2026. Check affected routes, timings, and alternate roads to avoid congestion.
Pune | 21 March, 2026: Ahead of Eid 2026 celebrations, authorities in Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad have announced extensive traffic diversions and restrictions to manage large gatherings for Eid namaz and ensure smooth vehicular movement. The special traffic arrangements will be in place on March 21, particularly during the morning hours when large congregations are expected at key Eidgah grounds.
According to traffic police officials, major restrictions will be enforced between 6:00 AM and 11:30 AM, especially around Golibar Maidan Chowk and surrounding areas where one of the largest Eid prayers will be organised. During this period, vehicular movement on several key stretches will either be completely restricted or diverted to alternative routes.

The stretch from Mammadevi Chowk to Golibar Chowk, as well as Old Solapur Bazaar Chowk to Golibar Chowk, will remain closed for regular traffic. Authorities have clearly stated that these restrictions are necessary to prevent congestion and ensure public safety as thousands of people gather for prayers. However, emergency services and government vehicles on duty will be exempt from these curbs.
For commuters, alternate routes have been planned to minimize inconvenience. Heavy vehicles heading towards central Pune, including Pune Station, will be prohibited from entering restricted zones and will instead be diverted via Solapur Road, Lullanagar, and Khatav Bungalow Road. Meanwhile, light vehicles will be rerouted through Empress Garden Road and Bishop’s School Road to reach their destinations. Traffic from CDO Square towards Golibar Chowk will be diverted via Napier Road.
In the Pimpri-Chinchwad area, similar arrangements are in place near Chaphekar Chowk in Nigdi, another major location for Eid prayers. Police have indicated that diversions will be enforced in and around the area to handle increased footfall and avoid bottlenecks, though essential services will continue uninterrupted.
Authorities have urged citizens to plan their travel in advance, avoid affected routes during peak hours, and follow traffic police instructions strictly. Commuters are also encouraged to use public transport services operated by Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited or opt for alternative travel timings to reduce inconvenience.
Traffic experts note that such diversions are a routine but crucial part of managing large-scale public gatherings in rapidly growing urban centers like Pune. Similar arrangements are implemented during major festivals and events to ensure both safety and smooth mobility.
In conclusion, while the Eid traffic diversions may cause temporary inconvenience, they are essential for maintaining order and safety during one of the most significant religious gatherings of the year. Citizens’ cooperation will play a key role in ensuring that celebrations conclude peacefully without major disruptions.
