March 23 | Nashik Authorities probing self-styled godman Ashok Kharat have uncovered staggering details of wealth accumulation, with his total assets now estimated between ₹1,500 crore and ₹2,000 crore. The revelations have intensified scrutiny into his activities, which allegedly include financial fraud, illegal money lending, and exploitation under the guise of faith. Earlier estimates had pegged his assets at around ₹500 crore, but ongoing investigations have significantly revised the figures. Officials say the scale of alleged benami properties and financial irregularities has left even investigators surprised.

Kharat, who was recently arrested, also faces a rape charge registered on Sunday, further compounding the seriousness of the case. Parallel to this, his alleged money-lending operations have come under focus, with claims that at least three individuals from Shirdi died by suicide after being trapped in his debt network. Questions are now being raised about how such incidents were allegedly suppressed. Investigations have revealed that Kharat and his family own as many as 52 properties across Nashik and Ahilyanagar districts. Of these, at least 11 properties are directly registered in his name, while a significant number are held in the name of his wife. The Pathardi area in Nashik alone accounts for 29 properties linked to him, indicating a vast real estate network.

Given the scale of suspected financial misconduct exceeding ₹100 crore, the Enforcement Directorate is expected to join the probe soon. Currently, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) along with the Income Tax Department is jointly examining the case, uncovering new details on a daily basis.Officials believe that Kharat amassed wealth through land grabbing, fraudulent partnerships, and exploiting religious sentiments. As the investigation deepens, more shocking disclosures are likely to emerge, making it one of the most significant cases of financial and social exploitation in recent times
