After Ajit Pawar’s demise, the party’s Pune unit has resumed public outreach, but internal discontent grows as key responsibilities appear concentrated with a personal aide, sidelining local leaders

Pune | 24March, 2026: The Pune unit of the Nationalist Congress Party (Ajit Pawar faction) has resumed its ‘Janata Darbar’ initiative in an attempt to reconnect with citizens and rebuild organisational momentum following the demise of senior leader Ajit Pawar. However, the move has triggered internal unease, with party insiders raising concerns over the manner in which operations are being handled.

The weekly ‘Janata Darbar’, held every Monday at the party’s Shivajinagar office, was restarted earlier this month under the direction of Deputy Chief Minister Sunetra Pawar. While local leaders remain present during these public interactions, sources within the party indicate that their role has largely become symbolic.

According to party insiders, much of the operational responsibility including receiving applications, addressing grievances, and coordinating responses is being managed by the personal aide of Sunetra Pawar. This has reportedly led to dissatisfaction among local office-bearers, who feel increasingly sidelined in decision-making processes.

The outreach initiative was originally launched by the late Ajit Pawar and is now being continued in a modified form. Alongside this, Sunetra Pawar has also revived a ‘Jansamvad’ programme in Baramati, directly engaging with citizens and elected representatives.

Despite these efforts, the party is still navigating a phase of emotional and organisational transition. Many workers and leaders are said to be grappling with the void left by Ajit Pawar’s passing, which has impacted morale at various levels.Observers note that while the ‘Janata Darbar’ was intended to strengthen grassroots connections, the emerging internal friction could pose challenges to the party’s efforts to regain cohesion and momentum in Pune.
