Two-time Maharashtra Kesari champion Harshvardhan Sadgir clarified he has no plans to retire, expressing his ambition to continue competing and achieve success at the international level

Pune | 24March, 2026: Two-time ‘Maharashtra Kesari’ title winner Harshvardhan Sadgir has firmly dismissed speculation about his retirement, stating that his wrestling career still has a long way to go. Speaking after clinching his second prestigious title in Wagholi, Sadgir said the rumours were a result of emotional remarks made in the heat of the moment.

Reflecting on his victory, Sadgir admitted that defeating his training partner Mahendra Gaikwad in the final bout was bittersweet. He acknowledged Gaikwad’s skill and expressed confidence that his fellow wrestler could also win the title in the future. Both athletes train under the guidance of Kaka Pawar at an international wrestling academy, adding to the pride of their training institution.

Sadgir emphasized that winning the Maharashtra Kesari title twice does not mark the end of his journey. Instead, he sees it as a stepping stone toward bigger goals. He highlighted his desire to perform at the international level, noting that earlier opportunities were disrupted during the COVID-19 period when competitions were cancelled.

Addressing discussions about government employment, Sadgir said he had earlier hoped for a role in public service after his first major win. While those efforts did not materialize at the time, he indicated openness to such opportunities if offered in the future.

Coach Kaka Pawar also backed Sadgir’s statement, noting that the wrestler still has significant potential to achieve more. He added that seeing both finalists from the same training setup compete at the highest level was a matter of pride.
