A sensational claim by the prosecution alleging five human sacrifices by accused Ashok Kharat stunned a Nashik court, intensifying an already disturbing investigation into exploitation and illegal activities.

Nashik | March 25, 2026 In a dramatic development, a sessions court in Nashik was left stunned after government prosecutors alleged that self-styled occult practitioner Ashok Kharat was involved in as many as five human sacrifices. The claim, made during a court hearing on Tuesday, has added a chilling dimension to an already serious case involving exploitation, illegal weapons, and suspected ritual practices.

Following arguments from both sides, Judge R.H. Patil remanded the accused to police custody for an additional five days, until March 27, to facilitate further investigation. Kharat, 67, was brought to court under heavy security, with over 200 police personnel deployed. His face was covered, and his subdued demeanor drew attention, as he stood silently, looking down and avoiding eye contact during proceedings.

According to the prosecution, Kharat allegedly targeted women in their 30s, luring and exploiting them under the guise of spiritual practices. Investigators also revealed that suspicious materials, including weapons and ritual-related items, were recovered from his farmhouse. Authorities suspect the use of firearms, with indications that multiple rounds may have been discharged. Further allegations suggest that women were given sweets and water that caused discomfort, raising concerns about possible substance use. The probe has also widened to include potential violations of wildlife laws, with references to animals such as tigers and snakes surfacing during temple-related investigations. Kharat denied knowledge of these allegations in court, stating he was unaware of any such activities and had cooperated fully with investigators.
