April 13 | New Delhi : The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) is set to introduce significant changes in its history curriculum from the 2027 academic session, aiming to reshape how students understand India’s past. The revised syllabus is expected to reduce the focus on the Mughal period while placing greater emphasis on indigenous rulers and their contributions to the nation’s history. As part of the proposed changes, the achievements of prominent figures such as Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, Maharana Pratap, and Emperor Ashoka will be highlighted in greater detail. In addition, more than 20 other Indian rulers are likely to be included, offering students a wider perspective on the country’s historical legacy.
Officials associated with the curriculum development process have indicated that the objective behind these changes is to present a more comprehensive and balanced account of India’s history. The move seeks to acknowledge the contributions of various regional powers and leaders who played a significant role in shaping the nation’s cultural and political landscape.
