April 17, 2026 | Mountain View: Google has announced a massive crackdown on harmful online advertising, revealing that it blocked or removed over 8.3 billion policy-violating ads globally in its latest annual safety report. The move underscores the growing role of artificial intelligence in tackling large-scale digital fraud and deceptive advertising practices. According to the report, Google’s AI-powered systems, particularly its Gemini platform, played a critical role in identifying and stopping malicious ads before they reached users. The company said that more than 99 percent of policy-violating ads were detected proactively, highlighting a significant improvement in automated threat detection.

The surge in enforcement comes amid a rapid increase in AI-generated scams, including fake celebrity endorsements, misleading financial schemes, and fraudulent health products. Experts note that bad actors are increasingly leveraging generative AI to create highly convincing content at scale, making detection more challenging than ever. In addition to blocking billions of ads, Google also suspended nearly 25 million advertiser accounts globally, with a significant number linked to scam-related activities. In India alone, hundreds of millions of violating ads were taken down, reflecting the scale of the issue in one of Google’s largest digital markets.

The company emphasized that its strategy combines AI systems with human oversight and stricter advertiser verification processes. These measures aim to prevent abuse at the source while maintaining a balance between security and legitimate advertising operations.

Industry analysts believe the battle between AI-powered scams and AI-driven defenses will continue to intensify. As digital advertising remains a multi-billion-dollar industry, ensuring trust and transparency is becoming increasingly critical.
