Pune’s urban transport network is set for a major upgrade as authorities move ahead with plans to integrate metro connectivity with key railway hubs, aiming to improve seamless travel across the city.

April 18, 2026 | Pune: In a significant step towards strengthening Pune’s public transport system, plans are underway to directly integrate metro connectivity with Hadapsar Railway Station and Chinchwad Railway Station. The initiative is part of a broader effort to enhance multimodal transport and ease daily commuting for thousands of passengers. Officials are currently evaluating options to connect the railway stations with nearby metro corridors through skywalks or foot overbridges (FOBs). Alignment surveys and consultations with railway authorities are in progress to finalise the most efficient connectivity model. Hadapsar is proposed to be linked through the Line 4 corridor (Khadakwasla–Kharadi), while the Chinchwad connection is planned along the PCMC–Nigdi (Bhakti Shakti) metro route.
Infrastructure upgrades are already gaining pace at Hadapsar station. A fourth platform has been sanctioned, with construction currently underway. Authorities are also considering an additional entry and exit point from the new platform to manage the anticipated rise in passenger traffic. The station, which was earlier developed as a satellite terminal with an investment of approximately ₹100 crore, is expected to see a sharp increase in usage.
Passenger footfall at Hadapsar currently stands at around 1.5 lakh per month and is projected to rise to 4–5 lakh following metro integration. Meanwhile, Chinchwad station handles nearly 3 lakh passengers monthly, underlining the need for improved connectivity.

To ensure smooth last-mile access, coordination efforts are ongoing with local civic bodies and transport agencies. Existing metro-rail links at Pune Junction Railway Station, Shivajinagar Railway Station, and Khadki Railway Station have already demonstrated the benefits of integrated transport systems. Notably, Shivajinagar also serves as a key hub for city bus services, further enhancing commuter convenience.
The proposed expansion reflects Pune’s growing focus on sustainable and efficient urban mobility solutions, with authorities aiming to reduce congestion and improve overall travel experience across the city.
