35-year-old pedestrian dies after being hit by a luxury bus in Pisoli, Pune; driver booked for negligence.

April 18, 2026 | Pune: A tragic road accident in Pune has once again highlighted the growing danger on city roads, after a pedestrian was killed by a private luxury bus on the busy Katraj–Kondhwa Road near Pisoli.

The victim, identified as Arjun Mhaske (35), a daily wage labourer and resident of Katraj, lost his life in the incident that took place on Wednesday afternoon around 1 pm. According to police officials, Mhaske was crossing the road when the accident occurred.

Preliminary investigation suggests that the luxury bus was heading towards Phursungi and was taking a turn when the driver allegedly failed to notice the pedestrian. The rear portion of the bus struck Mhaske, causing him to fall onto the road and sustain critical injuries.

Passersby immediately rushed to help and shifted him to Sassoon General Hospital for treatment. However, despite efforts, doctors declared him dead during treatment, confirming the severity of the injuries.

Police from the Kalepadal station have registered a case against the bus driver under sections related to rash and negligent driving and causing death due to negligence. Further investigation is underway to determine the exact circumstances of the incident and whether any additional lapses contributed to the tragedy.

This incident has once again brought focus to the Katraj–Kondhwa Road, which has long been considered accident-prone due to heavy traffic, ongoing infrastructure challenges, and inadequate pedestrian safety measures. Local residents and activists have repeatedly raised concerns over speeding vehicles, lack of proper crossings, and poor traffic regulation in the area.

The accident also adds to a growing list of fatal road incidents in Pune involving heavy vehicles, including buses and tankers, raising urgent questions about enforcement and road safety planning in rapidly expanding urban zones.

The death of a 35-year-old pedestrian in Pisoli is a grim reminder of the risks pedestrians face daily on Pune’s roads. As investigations continue, the incident underscores the urgent need for stricter traffic enforcement, better road design, and improved pedestrian safety measures to prevent further loss of life.
