Pune to face major water cut on April 23 due to maintenance work; PMC urges residents to store water as supply will be disrupted citywide.
Pune, April 20, 2026: Pune residents are set to face a major water supply disruption on Thursday, April 23, as the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has announced a citywide shutdown of water services to carry out essential maintenance and repair work. The disruption is part of routine infrastructure upgrades involving water purification plants, pumping stations, and overhead storage systems across multiple zones.
According to civic officials, water supply will remain completely shut on Thursday in most parts of the city, including newly merged areas. The maintenance work will cover key facilities such as Parvati, Warje, Wadgaon, and Cantonment water systems, along with booster pumping stations and overhead tanks. These upgrades are aimed at improving efficiency and ensuring long-term stability in the city’s water distribution network.

PMC has also clarified that even after the supply resumes on Friday, residents may experience low water pressure or delayed supply for a few hours. This is due to the time required to restore normal flow across the entire network after a full-day shutdown.
Officials have urged citizens to store adequate water in advance and use it judiciously during the disruption period. Housing societies, commercial establishments, and residents are advised to plan their usage carefully to avoid inconvenience.
This is not the first time Pune has witnessed such large-scale water cuts. Similar shutdowns are periodically scheduled by PMC to carry out essential repair and maintenance work, including pipeline upgrades, electrical repairs, and installation of new systems to improve supply efficiency.
The announcement comes amid ongoing concerns over water management in the city, including uneven supply, tanker dependency in some areas, and infrastructure challenges. However, civic officials maintain that such temporary disruptions are necessary to strengthen the overall system, especially ahead of peak summer demand.
Residents across Pune are now preparing for the temporary disruption, with many societies already making arrangements such as filling storage tanks and arranging backup water supply where needed.
The April 23 water cut is expected to impact a large portion of Pune, making advance preparation essential. While the temporary inconvenience may affect daily routines, PMC says the maintenance work will help ensure more reliable water supply in the long run.
