MNGL Hikes CNG Price by ₹1.50/kg in Pune Region, New Rate Now ₹92.25/kg

Compressed Natural Gas prices in Pune and surrounding industrial and urban pockets have been revised upward as MNGL cites rising input costs, though CNG continues to offer significant savings over petrol and diesel.

May 9, 2026 | Pune: Maharashtra Natural Gas Limited (MNGL) has announced an increase of ₹1.50 per kilogram in the retail price of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) across Pune, Pimpri-Chinchwad, Chakan, Talegaon, and Hinjewadi regions.

With the latest revision, the new CNG price has been fixed at ₹92.25 per kg, effective from midnight of May 8-9, 2026 The company stated that the price adjustment has been made due to a rise in the input cost of natural gas used for the CNG segment. MNGL clarified that the revision was unavoidable given the global and domestic fluctuations in gas procurement costs.

Despite the increase, CNG continues to remain a comparatively economical fuel option for vehicle users. According to MNGL’s estimates, CNG still provides savings of nearly 45% when compared to petrol and around 22% against diesel for passenger vehicles. For autorickshaw operators, the fuel continues to offer approximately 24% cost savings, making it a preferred choice in the public transport sector.

The revised rates are expected to impact daily commuters, private vehicle owners, and commercial transport operators across the Pune metropolitan region. However, industry observers believe that CNG will maintain its demand due to its cost advantage and lower environmental impact compared to conventional fuels.

MNGL has also confirmed that there will be no change in the prices of Domestic Piped Natural Gas (PNG) supplied to households, providing relief to residential consumers. The company has urged consumers and transport operators to take note of the revised pricing structure and plan fuel usage accordingly. The price revision reflects ongoing volatility in energy markets and the increasing cost of natural gas procurement.
