The Maharashtra Cabinet has approved significant amendments to the Punyashlok Ahilyadevi Holkar Shetkari Karjmukti Yojana 2026, paving the way for nearly 13 lakh additional farmers to receive farm loan waiver benefits of up to ₹2 lakh.

Under the revised norms, the earlier ceiling of ₹50,000 applicable to beneficiaries of the 2019 farm loan waiver scheme has been removed. As a result, eligible farmers who had previously received assistance under the earlier scheme will now be able to avail loan waiver benefits of up to ₹2 lakh under the new programme.

The Cabinet has also relaxed another major eligibility condition by removing the requirement for farmers to have borrowed and repaid crop loans on time during the 2026–27 financial year in order to receive incentive benefits. This decision is expected to extend incentive-based assistance to nearly 23 lakh farmers across the state.

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis had announced these revisions during the ongoing Monsoon Session of the Maharashtra Legislature, following which the Cabinet formally approved the changes on Tuesday.

The Punyashlok Ahilyadevi Holkar Shetkari Karjmukti Yojana 2026 is expected to benefit around 56 lakh farmers with financial assistance amounting to approximately ₹36,585 crore, making it one of the largest farm loan waiver programmes introduced in the state’s history.

Speaking after the Cabinet decision, Chief Minister Fadnavis said that unlike previous loan waiver schemes, the government has decided to include farmers who had already benefited under an earlier programme. He stated that the decision to enhance their eligibility from ₹50,000 to ₹2 lakh was taken after representations from ruling alliance legislators led by MLA Randhir Savarkar.

Agriculture Minister Dattatray Bharane said the government aims to implement the revised loan waiver before July 30. He also clarified that individuals who pay income tax will not be eligible for benefits under the scheme.

The revised policy is expected to provide substantial financial relief to farmers while expanding the coverage of the state’s flagship agricultural assistance programme.
