Over 18,000 Tourists Visit Sinhagad Fort Over Weekend; 3-km Traffic Jam Chokes Ghat Road

An overwhelming weekend rush of more than 18,000 tourists at Sinhagad Fort triggered a 3-km-long traffic jam on the ghat road, keeping authorities on their toes as monsoon tourism gathered momentum.

Sinhagad Fort witnessed a massive influx of tourists over the weekend, with more than 18,000 visitors flocking to the historic hill fort, resulting in a three-kilometre-long traffic jam on the ghat road leading to the popular destination.

According to officials, the rush began early in the morning and continued throughout the day as thousands of tourists, trekkers and families from Pune and nearby districts arrived to enjoy the scenic beauty of the fort during the monsoon season. The continuous flow of vehicles caused severe congestion, significantly slowing traffic on the narrow and winding ghat road.

Traffic police and local administration personnel were deployed at various points to regulate vehicular movement and prevent further bottlenecks. However, the sheer volume of vehicles entering the area, coupled with limited parking facilities near the fort, led to long queues stretching nearly three kilometres.

Sinhagad Fort remains one of Pune’s most visited tourist destinations during the monsoon due to its lush green surroundings, panoramic views and historical significance. The recent spell of rainfall has further enhanced its appeal, drawing record numbers of visitors every weekend.

Authorities have urged tourists to cooperate with traffic personnel, avoid travelling during peak hours and strictly follow parking regulations to ensure smoother traffic movement. Visitors have also been advised to use public transport or carpool wherever possible to reduce congestion on the ghat road.

Officials said traffic management arrangements will continue to be strengthened during weekends and public holidays, as tourist footfall is expected to remain high throughout the monsoon season. Motorists have also been advised to drive cautiously on the slippery ghat roads and follow all safety guidelines to prevent accidents.

The administration has reiterated that effective traffic management and responsible travel by visitors will be crucial to ensuring a safe and enjoyable experience at one of Pune’s most iconic heritage sites during the ongoing monsoon.
