Two Men Get Life Imprisonment for 2016 Talegaon Railway Station Case

An Additional District and Sessions Court has sentenced two men to life imprisonment until natural death for a 2016 assault on a young woman near Talegaon Railway Station, in a verdict delivered after a nine-year legal process.

Pune: In a significant verdict, Additional District and Sessions Judge M.S. Tapkire has sentenced two men, Sharad Murlidhar Salve (35) and Ankitsingh Ratansingh Bista alias Kanchan (34), to life imprisonment until natural death, along with a fine of Rs 25,000 each, in connection with a 2016 case involving an 18-year-old woman near Talegaon Railway Station.

According to the prosecution, the accused had approached the young woman, who was travelling from Baramati to Talegaon by train, on the pretext of offering her food. She was then taken to a car shed in the parking area near the railway station, where the incident took place.

The case was investigated by the Railway Police under the guidance of Superintendent of Police Dr. Rajkumar Shinde and Additional SP Vishal Gaikwad. During the trial, 12 witnesses were examined to support the prosecution’s case. Special Public Prosecutor Surekha Kshirsagar represented the state.

The court, taking into account the strength of the evidence gathered during the investigation and the arguments presented by the prosecution, convicted both accused and awarded them the maximum punishment under the law.

The verdict, delivered nearly nine years after the incident, has been welcomed as a significant step toward justice, with officials noting the thoroughness of the investigation as a key factor behind the conviction.
