Pune | 12 December 2025: The Aam Aadmi Party has called for the immediate opening of the newly constructed Sanjay Gandhi Hospital at Bopodi, alleging that the fully developed facility has been left unused despite repeated reminders. Local women and party workers staged a protest near the hospital on Thursday, demanding that essential medical services begin without delay.

Anne Anish and Vikas Chavan, AAP’s Ward 8 candidates, said it was unacceptable that a complete and modern hospital continued to remain locked. They noted that Sahyadri Hospital, the only active option nearby, accepts only pre-registered normal delivery cases. According to them, this leaves thousands of families without access to emergency obstetric care.

Anne stated that medical complications in pregnancy are common today, and most situations require immediate intervention. For a densely populated stretch like Bopodi–Khadki, she said emergency maternity and trauma facilities are not optional but essential. Starting these services at Sanjay Gandhi Hospital would offer residents timely care and reduce dependence on limited private options.

AAP leaders further criticised the Pune Municipal Corporation for spending crores on constructing hospitals but failing to operationalise them. Mukund Kirdat said such facilities are often left unused and later handed over to private managements. He stressed that poor and middle-class families need reliable, free healthcare that is accessible in their own neighbourhoods.

Since the hospital sits right along the highway, AAP said it could play a vital role in providing life-saving trauma care for accident victims during the golden hour. They urged the PMC to recognise this potential and start services immediately. The protest saw the participation of Mukund Kirdat, Anne Anish, Vikas Chavan, and several local residents including Sheetal Kandelkar, Shraddha Shetty, Akshay Shinde, Naushad Ansari, Satish Yadav and others.
