Mumbai | October 11, 2025 — In a significant political development in Maharashtra, Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Ajit Pawar has condemned the anti-Muslim remarks made by Ahilyanagar MLA Sangram Jagtap during a Hindu rally in Solapur.

Jagtap had publicly urged citizens to make Diwali purchases exclusively from Hindu-owned shops, asserting that the profits should benefit only the Hindu community. He further claimed that attacks on Hindu temples and individuals were orchestrated from mosques.

Pawar responded firmly, stating, “Jagtap’s statement is unacceptable. We will issue a show-cause notice to him. Once the party’s ideology is established, any deviation by a legislator or leader is not acceptable to the NCP. Our stance has always been and will remain unchanged.”

The remarks have caused unrest within the NCP, with party members expressing dissatisfaction over Jagtap’s consistent anti-Muslim rhetoric. Despite previous admonitions, Jagtap has maintained his position, leading to increased tensions.

Political analysts suggest that Jagtap’s alignment with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), through his father-in-law Shivaji Kardile, a BJP MLA, might be influencing his recent statements. This association has sparked discussions about his ideological shift and its implications for the NCP.
