Amravati Farmers Protest as 5.48 Lakh Hectares Affected by Excessive Rainfall Receive No Relief Package
Over 5.48 lakh hectares in Amravati district were devastated by unseasonal rains, yet the state government’s relief package announced on October 10 failed to include this area. Farmers are demanding immediate assistance and compensation.
Amravati, Maharashtra — October 13, 2025 — Farmers in Amravati district are expressing outrage after the state government’s recently announced relief package overlooked the 5.48 lakh hectares affected by excessive rainfall in September. The government had sanctioned ₹570 crore for 4.91 lakh farmers under the prevailing norms, but this assistance was not extended to the affected farmers.
The unseasonal rains, which began in August and continued into September, led to widespread crop damage. Standing crops were submerged, and those that remained were infected with fungal diseases, exacerbating the losses. Despite a comprehensive report submitted by the agriculture and revenue departments on October 9, the government’s October 10 order did not address the needs of the affected farmers.
This exclusion has sparked protests across the district, with farmers demanding immediate compensation and inclusion in the relief package. The situation underscores the growing discontent among the farming community over perceived governmental neglect in addressing their challenges.
