Ahead of the second India vs South Africa ODI, Board of Control for Cricket in India has called a sudden meeting with coach Gautam Gambhir and chief selector Ajit Agarkar, with the ODI futures of veteran batters Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma expected to be discussed.
New Delhi / Raipur| December 1, 2025: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has convened an urgent high-level meeting ahead of the second ODI in the ongoing India–South Africa series. Present at the meeting will be head coach Gautam Gambhir, chief selector Ajit Agarkar, and senior board officials.)
The sudden gathering comes on the back of growing speculation about the ODI careers of stalwarts Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. Both players returned to action in the current series, but their long-term roles, especially with the 2027 ODI World Cup in mind, remain uncertain.
Apart from individual futures, the agenda reportedly includes a broader review of team strategy, selection consistency and long-term planning across formats especially given recent lapses in Test performance.
A senior official quoted by media said the board wants to ensure clarity and direction well in advance of upcoming milestones: the T20 World Cup next year and the 2027 ODI World Cup.
While it seems unlikely that senior players will attend the meeting (scheduled on match day itself), the decisions taken could shape the core of the national side for the next few years. Observers are watching closely: the results of this meeting might redefine the balance between experience and fresh talent in the Indian team’s future.
