Bhoomi Pujan of Four Key Highway Projects Around Pune to Be Held Soon, Says Nitin Gadkari

Union Minister Nitin Gadkari announced that the groundbreaking ceremony for four major highway projects aimed at easing traffic congestion in Pune and nearby areas will be conducted within the next month

Pune | 07 March, 2026: Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari has announced that the groundbreaking ceremonies for four important highway projects in and around Pune will be carried out soon. The projects are expected to significantly improve connectivity and reduce traffic congestion in the Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad region.

Speaking at a press interaction, Gadkari said that the bhoomi pujan for the Pune–Shirur highway, the Hadapsar–Yavat corridor, the Talegaon–Chakan–Shikrapur route and the Nashik Phata–Khed highway is likely to take place within the coming month. These projects have been under discussion for several years and are considered crucial for addressing the region’s growing transportation challenges.

Officials said the new road corridors are expected to ease pressure on existing routes that witness heavy traffic daily due to rapid urban expansion and industrial activity. The Talegaon–Chakan–Shikrapur stretch is particularly important because it connects key industrial belts in the Pune district.

Similarly, the Hadapsar–Yavat corridor is expected to streamline traffic movement on the Pune–Solapur route, while the Nashik Phata–Khed highway aims to improve connectivity towards northern parts of the district. The Pune–Shirur highway will also play a vital role in facilitating smoother travel between Pune city and nearby towns.

Infrastructure experts believe that once these highway projects begin, they could bring long-term relief to commuters who currently face frequent traffic bottlenecks in and around Pune. The projects are also expected to strengthen logistics and support industrial growth in the region.

Authorities indicated that these developments are part of a larger infrastructure push to modernise road networks across Maharashtra and enhance connectivity between major urban and industrial centres.
