Rashtriya Janata Dal announces its first candidate list for Bihar Assembly elections 2025, dropping 36 sitting MLAs and changing Tej Pratap Yadav’s constituency under Tejashwi Yadav’s leadership.
Patna, October 20, 2025 :- The Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) has released its first list of 143 candidates for the Bihar Assembly elections 2025, reflecting a significant reshuffle aimed at strengthening the party’s position. Under the leadership of Tejashwi Yadav, the party dropped 36 sitting MLAs and introduced several new faces across key constituencies. The strategic changes indicate RJD’s intent to balance experience with fresh energy, as the elections approach in two phases this November.
Among the major changes, former minister Tej Pratap Yadav’s constituency underwent a notable adjustment, with Mala Pushpam being nominated in his place. In Raghunathpur, sitting MLA Harishankar Yadav was replaced by Osama, son of the well-known political figure Shahabuddin. Bhudev Chaudhary’s ticket from Dhoriya was also removed as part of the revamp. These decisions suggest a careful strategy by the RJD leadership to realign candidates for maximum electoral advantage.
Despite these changes, the party has retained 41 sitting MLAs, ensuring continuity in constituencies where the party has a strong voter base. Notable leaders who secured their tickets again include Alok Mehta, Chandrashekhar, Yusuf Salauddin, and Chandrashekhar Choupal. Additionally, MLA Suday Yadav’s constituency has been changed to Kurtha, reflecting the party’s flexibility in positioning candidates for stronger performance.
The Bihar Assembly elections will be conducted in two phases. The first phase of voting is scheduled for November 6, 2025, followed by the second phase on November 11, 2025, with the counting of votes to be held on November 14, 2025. Political analysts suggest that RJD’s early announcement of its candidate list could provide it with a strategic advantage by allowing time for campaign planning and voter outreach.
Tejashwi Yadav’s leadership has been marked by a focus on combining experienced legislators with new entrants to energize the party cadre and voters alike. The reshuffle also highlights RJD’s intent to respond to local political dynamics and voter sentiment, aiming to maximize electoral gains in Bihar’s diverse constituencies. Observers note that changes such as replacing sitting MLAs and reallocating constituencies are likely to impact voter perception and could influence the overall electoral outcome in key regions.
With Bihar’s elections drawing near, political parties, including RJD, are emphasizing ground-level campaigning, candidate visibility, and strategic alliances to secure voter confidence. The first candidate list of RJD provides a glimpse into the party’s approach, combining experience, strategic placement, and new entrants to strengthen its presence across the state.
