New Delhi | 17 February 2026:The Supreme Court has made important observations regarding cases where physical relationships are established under the promise of marriage. The court noted that whether deception occurred or whether the relationship was consensual depends on the circumstances of each case.

It emphasized that decisions regarding physical intimacy should be made thoughtfully, with full awareness of potential legal consequences.
The court also suggested that mediation could be considered in such contentious cases. It stressed the importance of thoroughly investigating whether false promises of marriage were involved.

Exercising caution and avoiding decisions made under emotional pressure is essential, the Supreme Court observed, highlighting the need for awareness and responsibility in personal and legal matters.
