Shiv Sena MP Dhairyashil Mane backed residents protesting toll collection at Kognoli on the Maharashtra-Karnataka border, demanding relief for local commuters amid fears of further escalation until their demands are met.

Kolhapur |November 01 2025: Shiv Sena MP Dhairyashil Mane has triggered fresh tension along the Maharashtra–Karnataka border by leading a protest at the Kognoli toll plaza. Local vehicle drivers and activists accuse authorities of unfair toll collection practices from nearby villages, demanding that tolls be waived or revised.

On [date unspecified], motorists blocked entries at the toll booth in a direct action protest, pressing for relief. The aggrieved drivers say residents from villages within a 2–20 km radius are compelled to pay tolls even for routine travel like school commutes or local errands.

Mane’s involvement has given added weight to the border-friction narrative. The protestors warned that unless their demands are addressed promptly, escalation and tougher agitation may follow. Officials responded by engaging in talks, but no immediate resolution has been reached. Meanwhile, the blockade caused delays and traffic buildup on the Pune-Bengaluru highway through the toll checkpoint. Lawmakers from both Maharashtra and Karnataka have been called upon to intervene.

The protest reflects growing sensitivity over state-border toll policies, transport equity for border-area residents, and the role of political leadership in regional disputes. With the demand now pushed into public discourse, it remains to be seen how authorities will respond to the pressure from activists and MLAs involved in the movement.
