BSP alleges large-scale grab of Mahar Watan lands in Baramati after Pune land scam
BARAMATI
At a Baramati press meet, BSP leaders claim Mahar Watan lands were seized through political influence after the Pune land scam. They demand a white paper and action against officials.
BARAMATI, 07 November 2025 – The Bahujan Samaj Party created a stir today after accusing influential political figures and government officials of enabling the takeover of multiple Mahar Watan lands in Baramati and nearby areas. At a press conference led by state general secretary Kaluram Chaudhary, the party claimed that the fallout of the Pune land scam has exposed a deeper pattern in which Watan lands meant for the Mahar community have been diverted, transferred or occupied using political pressure and administrative convenience. A written demand was handed to the Chief Minister asking for a detailed white paper on all Mahar Watan lands across the state and for immediate action against those allegedly responsible.
According to Chaudhary, the same network of political links that allowed the controversial 40-acre Kondhwa land transaction also played a role in land dealings in Baramati. One of the key examples they presented involved Survey No. 353 in Songaon, originally recorded under the name of Kisan Dhakaku Kamble, a Mahar Watan landholder. The allegation is that after Parth Pawar’s entry into politics, local officers under the influence of senior leaders facilitated a series of transfers that pushed the original family out of ownership. The party also accused sub-registrars and revenue officials of helping process documents without adequate checks, arguing that the system was bent in favour of people close to powerful leaders.
BSP representatives claimed that this wasn’t an isolated case. They pointed to land in Shardanagar where, according to them, a school complex stands on land that once belonged to Mahar Watan holders. They argued that these patterns show a consistent disregard for caste-linked land protections and a willingness to bypass rules whenever large projects or politically connected buyers are involved. The party said that what is being framed as “development” is often carried out at the cost of communities with traditional land rights, who are then left with no recourse except public protest.
The press conference drew sharp attention because the allegations directly link senior political names to land losses faced by marginalised communities. Chaudhary said the party wants a full investigation monitored at the state level, recovery of lands where wrongdoing is established and criminal action against officers and middlemen. He added that the community has faced such issues for years but the current land scam has brought renewed focus, making it the right moment to demand accountability.
As of now, none of the individuals named in the allegations have issued a response, and the local administration has not commented. Legal observers say the claims, if pursued, could trigger a broader review of how Watan lands have been handled statewide. The situation also reflects growing tension over hereditary land rights, especially in areas undergoing rapid development, where land values have spiked and political influence shapes many transactions. Activists in the region believe the issue will intensify in the coming days as pressure mounts on the government to address the community’s grievances and to check whether regulations around Watan land transfers have been respected or ignored.
