Pune
Pune’s Bund Garden Police arrested three suspects in a mobile-snatching racket and recovered 19 stolen phones valued at approximately ₹3.25 lakh after multiple incidents across the city.
Pune, October 23, 2025 – In a decisive operation, the Bund Garden Police Station in Pune have arrested three individuals in connection with multiple mobile‐snatching incidents and seized 19 stolen mobile phones estimated to be worth around ₹3.25 lakh. The arrests mark the resolution of at least eight robbery cases, as the suspects are believed to have targeted mobile phone users in busy city areas including Bund Garden, Wanawadi, Kondhwa, Market Yard and Swargate.
The three arrested suspects have been identified as Sohel Badshah Khan (20), Ayan Zakir Shaha (21) and Farhan Wasim Sheikh (20), all residents of Shivnerinagar, Kondhwa. According to the investigation, the trio operated on two‐wheelers, targeting individuals who were using or carrying mobile phones in public spaces. The initial trigger for the investigation came when a victim reported being robbed at Sadhu Vaswani Chowk while riding his bike and holding a phone. CCTV footage from the area was reviewed and technical leads were followed to trace the suspects and their operational route.
Police officials say that from the sequence of robberies, it became clear the men moved between high foot‐traffic zones late in the evening, making quick snatches and speeding away on bikes. Once arrested, the suspects led investigators to the seized phones and a two‐wheeler that was used in the robberies. The recoveries total an estimated value of ₹3.25 lakh. While eight cases have been solved so far, the police note that further investigation is underway to identify the original owners of the remaining phones and link these to any additional thefts.
Local residents in the affected areas have expressed relief that the police action came swiftly, noting growing concern in recent months over mobile phone snatchings in Pune’s busy lanes. Many victims had described feeling vulnerable while using phones on bikes or walking late at night. The Bund Garden Police have stressed that commuter vigilance is still important—users are encouraged to avoid using their phones visibly in vulnerable locations, to avoid distractions, and to report any suspicious two‐wheelers immediately.
Officials from the Pune Police said that the operation highlights the value of integrating CCTV review, technical intelligence and ground investigation to crack mobile‐snatching rings that rely on speed and local knowledge. They also noted that while mechanised methods and coordination are improving law enforcement response, community participation remains key—residents, housing associations and public transport users can play a strong role in surveillance and early reporting.
As many two‐wheeler snatchers depend on quick grabs and rapid escapes, the arrests by Bund Garden Police send a clear message: such crime networks can be traced, and both the stolen items and the vehicles used in the acts can be seized. The ongoing investigations are expected to lead to more arrests, and the police have promised to update the public on progress. For Pune’s mobile phone users, the case serves as a reminder to stay alert and aware in public spaces—especially in high‐traffic areas—and to report thefts promptly.
