Cafe Peter franchise case in Pune: court rejects bail plea of accused. Investigation continues as authorities trace financial transactions and links.
Pune, April 03 2026: In a major cheating case involving the commercial misuse of the popular ‘Cafe Peter’ brand, the accused Chan Seok Jung (alias Peter Jung) and his associate Kamlesh Kale are currently absconding after their anticipatory bail applications were rejected by the Pune Sessions Court.
The case, registered by the Bundgarden Police, pertains to alleged cheating and breach of trust involving a Pune-based entrepreneur, Shweta Salunkhe, owner of a hospitality firm. According to the FIR, the accused allegedly lured the complainant into a deal for franchise and brand rights of the ‘Cafe Peter’ brand and collected approximately ₹2.04 crore over a period of time.

It is further alleged that the duo continued reselling the ‘Cafe Peter’ brand even after receiving the huge payment from the complainant. The amount was reportedly paid in instalments as part of the transaction.
There are also discussions within the industry suggesting that similar franchise offers may have been extended to multiple individuals. Meanwhile, the hospitality sector in the city has expressed concern over the emergence of allegedly unauthorised franchise outlets in prime areas such as Wakad, Nigdi, and Kothrud, potentially involving significant financial transactions in the form of deposits and royalties under misleading claims.
Both accused had approached the Sessions Court seeking anticipatory bail; however, the court rejected their applications, denying them relief. Following this development, both Jung and Kale are reported to be untraceable.
Police have intensified efforts to locate the accused, and further investigation is underway to identify additional complainants and examine financial transactions linked to the case.
