Case Filed Against Pet Shop Owner and Staff After Dog’s Death in Kalyani Nagar, Pune
A case has been filed against the owner and staff of a pet shop in Kalyani Nagar, Pune, following the death of a pet dog allegedly due to negligence during grooming.
Pune, October 17, 2025: In a tragic incident in Kalyani Nagar, Pune, a pet dog died shortly after a grooming session at a local pet shop. The dog’s owner, a 22-year-old woman residing in Wadgaon Sheri, has lodged a formal complaint with the Yerawada Police, accusing the pet shop staff of negligence.
According to the complaint, on September 28, the woman entrusted her nine-month-old dog, named Dash, to the Vateek Pet Shop for grooming services. After a bath administered by the staff, Dash reportedly began vomiting and collapsed, leading to its death. The owner alleges that the grooming products used were toxic and that the staff mishandled the dog during the process. She further claims that the incident caused her significant mental distress.
Following the complaint, the Yerawada Police have registered a case under Section 11 of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act and other relevant provisions against the pet shop owner and two employees, Ismail Sheikh and Raj alias Pradeep Das. Assistant Police Inspector Dinesh Patil is overseeing the investigation.
The pet shop, Vateek Pet Shop, is known in the Kalyani Nagar area for offering grooming and wellness services for pets. The incident has raised concerns among local pet owners about the safety and quality of services provided by pet establishments.
This case highlights the importance of accountability and transparency in pet care services. Authorities have urged pet owners to ensure that grooming establishments adhere to safety standards and to report any incidents of negligence promptly.
