Shiv Sena MLA Santosh Bangar faces legal action after allegedly entering a polling booth while voting was underway, prompting police intervention and political backlash.

Jalna–Hingoli, December 2, 2025 – During the ongoing local-body elections, MLA Santosh Bangar has landed in serious trouble after a case was registered against him for allegedly entering a polling booth while voting was in progress. The incident has triggered political tension in the region and has raised questions about misuse of authority on election day.

A video circulating locally shows Bangar stepping inside the booth and going close to the voting compartment while a woman voter was casting her vote. Polling staff objected immediately and filed a formal complaint, stating that no elected representative or political worker is permitted to enter the voting area unless they are casting their own vote. The complaint prompted quick action from the police, who booked Bangar under sections related to violating election rules and interfering with the voting process.

According to officials, the act is viewed as a serious breach because it threatens the secrecy and independence of the voter. Election authorities said they will submit a detailed report and have asked for statements from the presiding officer, booth staff and other witnesses present at the time.

Shortly after the case was filed, police teams also reached Bangar’s residence as part of their follow-up action. The move has sparked political reactions, with opposition leaders accusing the MLA of intimidating voters and undermining the democratic process. They have demanded strict action and argued that a public representative entering a polling booth in this manner cannot be treated as a minor mistake.

Bangar’s supporters, however, claim the issue is being blown out of proportion. They argue that he did not attempt to influence the voter and that the video does not show any direct interference. Some have suggested that the incident is being used politically to target him during a sensitive election phase. They have asked for a fair investigation before any conclusions are drawn.

The clash between political narratives has only intensified. Local leaders from rival parties say the case highlights the need for stronger enforcement at polling stations. With multiple incidents of disruptions reported across the state during this election cycle, the pressure on authorities to ensure a peaceful and unbiased voting environment has increased.

Despite the controversy, voting in the area resumed after a brief pause. Police maintained tight security around the booth for the rest of the day, and officials reassured voters that the situation was under control. Voters who were present said the scene caused confusion and discomfort, with some stepping back until authorities clarified the rules and restored order.

The investigation is currently underway, and police are reviewing the video along with witness statements. Election officials have emphasised that even minor violations inside a booth can have larger implications, especially when carried out by high-profile individuals. They said the matter would be taken to its logical conclusion based on evidence.

As the case moves forward, the incident has added another layer of tension to the local-body elections in Marathwada. Whether this turns into a larger legal battle or remains an isolated breach will depend on the findings of the ongoing investigation.
